FRIZZ=NO FUN
As summer heats up, hair frizz may be a common trouble for our clients…
The #moutonsdifference experts share insight on what causes frizz, how to fight it and what products they recommend for keeping your hair looking gorgeous all summer long.
WHAT CAUSES FRIZZ?
It depends on the condition and damage of your hair. When you wear your hair down in a certain type of weather, the shape of the cuticle changes. When your hair is frizzy, it’s caused by your cuticle being wide open, and happens most commonly in humid conditions. If your hair is naturally curly and frizzy, this will only intensify in more humid weather. Hair gets frizzy when the outermost layer of the hair, called the cuticle, lifts. Frizz can affect all hair types and textures; however, dry and damaged hair is especially prone to frizz because the cuticles are already compromised. Curly hair may have more pronounced frizz.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP TO PREVENT FRIZZ?
Fighting frizz starts in the shower, so you want to make sure you’re using a sulfate-free shampoo that won’t strip the hair of its essential moisture. Hair types that are more prone to frizz tend to be dryer naturally, so hydration is important. If your hair is frizzy, leaving your conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing can help to maximize moisture. When applying a product, be sure to evenly apply from roots to ends and use a product that helps smooth your strands while protecting the hair from heat styling tools. When blow drying the hair, use a large, round bristle brush and blow dry the hair downward while simultaneously turning the brush.
THE PRODUCTS AND A SERVICE THAT WE RECOMMEND
Start with a shampoo like Kerastase Bain Fluidealiste which will calm the hair. It is specifically formulated for unruly, over-processed hair. We also would recommend Kerastase Curl Manifesto for naturally curly and coiled hair. Follow with a masque like the Kerastase produced Masque Oleo-Relax. We also would prescribe the Oleo Relax Advanced oil if your hair is voluminous and unruly. As you begin to blow dry your hair, a great tool by Kerastase is Fluidissime. This is an exceptional anti-frizz hair care to use as you start to blow dry the hair down the hair shaft – otherwise you’ll be going against the grain, making the ends explode into even more frizziness.
Finally, we have an excellent service, a Keratin treatment, that we highly recommend for chronic frizziness. A keratin blowout is a smoothing treatment that fills the empty holes in your hair where your natural keratin used to be. It’s like filling the gaps in our hair follicles to help it become whole again. We offer the complete Keratin Treatment which typically lasts 9-12 weeks and an Express Blowout which is created to last 6-8 weeks.
Frizziness is NOT something that you need to live with this summer!!
